In the beginning there was direct.
Today, everyone understands that touching people and building true relationships, are at the heart of every message and every medium. Direct was, is and always will be the true essence of marketing. The art of relationship building, direct to the heart, delivered by every technology, is the challenge of our community.
Direct and emotional engagement isn’t only a game changer, but a life changer. Its true greatness however, lies in the fact it’s no longer confined and owned by marketers alone. That knowledge has crossed over to the people. People, not “consumers”.
My first “date” with the Cannes Advertising Festival was 15 years ago. Since then, our relationship has grown stronger and deeper. It has become part of my life, which is why it’s such a great honor for me to be the 2012 Cannes Direct Lions Jury president.
Relationships are built over time, there are no shortcuts and they are worth investing in. So look around and build one. Because relationships have the power to change the world.
At Cannes that is what counts. Building relationships and evolving them. Together with the Cannes Direct Jury, which I am looking forward to meeting, we will go hunting for every proven innovation in that art.
